The Project
"A tour in Basilicata" is a photographic and documentary project born from the desire to rediscover one's land of origin. Created by Roberto Lacava, a Lucanian photographer and computer scientist, this work represents a long and deep inner as well as physical journey, through the often hidden wonders of a unique region.
Over a period of four years, more than 80,000 kilometers were traveled far and wide across the Lucanian territory. The goal was ambitious but clear: to document, unfiltered and with authenticity, all the municipalities of Basilicata. From the majestic peaks of the Pollino to the clay ravines, from small abandoned villages to the Ionian and Tyrrhenian coasts.
Through approximately 150,000 photographic shots, "A tour in Basilicata" does not limit itself to capturing breathtaking landscapes, but tries to tell the very essence of the region: the people, the secular traditions, the details of daily life, and the deep contradictions of a land suspended between heartbreaking beauty, isolation, and depopulation. It is a visual testimony of an archaic and mysterious world that risks changing or disappearing forever.
Over the years, the material collected in this immense archive has been the protagonist of several photographic exhibitions in Italy and abroad, bringing the magic of Basilicata even beyond national borders. This website is the digital container of that adventure, an invitation to all travelers and the curious to explore, know, and love the Lucanian land.
