Chiaromonte

Among the fertile and rolling hills of Basilicata, Chiaromonte proudly presents itself to the traveler’s gaze as a majestic urban amphitheater projecting spectacularly on a rugged rocky spur. Scenographically surrounded by the immense and verdant territory of the Pollino National Park, this village is a priceless hidden treasure, a true living story of ancient peasant traditions and sincere hospitality.

The ancient and proud origins of the town are revealed step by step, walking without haste among its silent alleys, the steep and tiring stone steps and the ancient churches of solid medieval structure. The historic center is a pearl of enchanting authenticity, where time seems to have literally stopped and everyday life still peacefully follows the reassuring and ancient rhythm of the seasons. The countless and characteristic historic rock cellars, expertly dug by hand into the bare living rock, strongly testify to a deep and proud identity bond with the art of viticulture and the conservation of local products.

But Chiaromonte is not just a precious open-air museum: its enviable and elevated position makes it a truly privileged panoramic terrace over the valleys of the Sinni and Serrapotamo rivers. From here the gaze wanders in wonder over dense, uncontaminated forests, imposing clayey gullies and evocative reliefs. An absolutely chosen destination for those seeking slow, intimate and meditative tourism, in perfect balance and harmony with the grandeur of nature and the genuine taste of the Lucanian land.
